The first wedding anniversary is the denim anniversary, right? Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, who recently celebrated their one-year, certainly make the case for it. The two were spotted heading to the Big Slap Festival in Malmö, Sweden—where Ora performed this past weekend—wearing outfits reminiscent of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s 2001 American Music Awards memorable denim couples fit.
Ora previously tested out a bold take on the Canadian Tuxedo in 2019, when she walked around SoHo in head-to-toe Diesel. Now, she’s brought Waititi into the fold, too.
The singer, who changed into a hot pink catsuit for her performance, left her hotel in a printed jean minidress and knee-high Paris Texas Jane boots, which, while they appear to be denim, are actually suede. She topped off her loud look with a teal-and-green purse, a fistful of colorful rings, and Y2K-inspired sunglasses. Waititi put his spin on the Canadian Tuxedo, rocking a chambray blazer and trousers over a button-up, which he left open at the top. Taking a laid-back approach to double denim, the filmmaker finished his look with a pair of high-top skater sneakers.
Yesterday, the singer released a new song, “You & I,” set to footage of the couple’s intimate wedding ceremony. At the Swedish festival, Ora invited Waititi onstage to celebrate their anniversary, sharing a kiss before the cheering crowd. We wish them many happy, denim-clad years to come.
