Steven Spielberg at The Fabelmans So it’s only fitting that Thursday’s Palm Springs Film Awards saw someone he loves like family take to the stage to present his team with the Vanguard Award.
Why did they first meet? A potential date.
The two of us would really hit it off,” continued Field, who also screened her new film
Field went on to praise Spielberg for the unique imprint he has left on the culture through his extensive filmography.
“Honestly, I can’t imagine life without him right now, but I can’t imagine our country, let alone this industry, if Steven Spielberg never held a camera in his hand. His vision, his sense of humor and fun, terror and entertainment, his humanity and heart have melted into the consciousness of the whole world,” she said, before moving on from his films such as Jaws , ET and Indiana Jones . “When we We smile when we hear someone say, ‘We need a bigger boat’. ’ Or, ‘Call home’. Or, ‘Snake…why must it be a snake?’”
She continued: “For almost six years, he made the whole Planet is terrified, moved and fascinated. His art is so deeply in our blood that it is easy to take him for granted. Just like when we hear his name, we don’t know that his breath nods, while ignoring how improbable and unequal his career was, and always will be.”
Spielberg and his Fabelmans collaborators took to the stage to accept their trophies as they were seen at an awards ceremony The night was greeted with a standing ovation from the convention center audience dedicated to Austin Butler, Cate Blanche tt, Colin Farrell, Viola Davis, Brendan Fraser, Danielle Deadwyler, Bill Nighy, Michelle Yeoh and Sarah Polley.

Before turning his attention to the experience of making the film and his own family, Spielberg thanked Feld for the kind words and said she was in Lincoln’s work in (for which she was nominated for an Oscar) is “one of the best performances of your long Oscar-winning career.” Lee has always been a part of my family, a part of our lives and she was at our wedding 34 Years ago, she was with us everywhere, and we were with her.”
Regarding The Fabelmans, Spielberg said it wasn’t easy to tell a story that he actually lives by going back to those memories, some of which are painful , and then had to put it all in the movie.
“But I know that if I’m going to make this movie, I have to work really hard, be as honest as possible, and without the talent and commitment of this movie family, I would never be able to put my real family in a movie,” he said. “I’ve always told people that filmmaking is a collaborative party, and this film has never been more authentic. The cast and crew walked me home and helped me make my first film about coming home.”
Then he corrects himself: “Well, the second film about coming home. The first one is ET came home. So, this is the sequel to ET and I go home every day because of everyone here and I’m surrounded by love and support.”
