Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 review

Introduction

Here comes another Samsung Unpacked event, this time bringing us the fourth-generation foldable Galaxy smartphone. Unexpectedly, Samsung released four phones, the Fold and Flip, the first being more of a foldable tablet, and the Flip — a flip phone with a nostalgic vibe.

Today, we’re going to explore the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, which is very similar to the Galaxy Z Flip3, but better. It’s a formula that’s been in use for years because technology can’t evolve as quickly as manufacturers roll out new versions of their phones. But while the new Z Flip4 won’t get many, if any, Z Flip3 owners to upgrade, it improves enough bits to make more people consider buying this new foldable flagship.

Samsung has improved the Galaxy Z Flip3, tweaking all the weaknesses that reviewers and users alike agree on — low-light camera performance, battery life, charging speed. And, of course, the new Z Flip4 has the latest Android chip – the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

The new Galaxy Z Flip4 has the same internal Dynamic AMOLED 2X and external Super AMOLED screens as the Z Flip3. But thanks to fewer bezels around the foldable screen and a flatter aluminum frame, the Z Flip4 is now shorter and has a thinner hinge.

Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X still has the same highest adaptability 70 Hz refresh rate and equally bright, peak brightness up to 960 nits. The middle crease remains for now, as does the punch hole for the selfie camera.

The Z Flip4 is IPX8 rated for water resistance – a feature only Samsung has to offer 3rd and 4th generation foldables. Samsung and Sony are the only two manufacturers that aim to provide water protection for the majority of their phones, and we really appreciate their efforts.

In addition to the chipset upgrade, the Galaxy Z Flip4 also features an improved camera system on the back. It’s still a dual camera setup, but the main shooter now relies on the larger 012 MP sensor with 1.8µm pixels plus wider 19 mm f / 1.8 OIS lens. This new sensor should allow 60% spotlight improvement and improved low light performance. This12 MP Ultra Wide and 007 The MP selfie camera is the same as on the Flip3.
