Samsung kicked off the Galaxy Z Fold4’s upcoming One UI 5.1.1 beta program in South Korea today, and apparently the first beta is already available to registered users. Despite what this tiny increment might mean, One UI 5.1.1 actually brings a lot of new features to foldable smartphones.
Changelog mentions in recent apps for split screen, full screen or popup apps, switch directly from popup to split screen, move popup apps off screen for safe keeping until you To get back to them, preview apps when you hover the S Pen over an app icon, the taskbar is now able to display up to 4 recently used apps (up from 2), and if the icon displayed on the taskbar area is 7 or fewer, the taskbar area is automatically adjusted.
Also, more apps can be forced to support Flex mode panels, and speaking of which, when used with media, you can now use buttons to fast forward or Jump backward 10 seconds while pressing the time bar will jump to a specific position on the timeline. The toolbar of the Flex Mode panel is customizable, and now it’s always possible to quickly share with contacts, even when they’re not nearby. You can also set an expiration date for shared files and even unshare them at any time.
Samsung Health has improved the content and design of sleep guidance on Galaxy Watch4 or newer smartwatches, making it easier to see and better understand the factors that affect your sleep score. The Galaxy Watch5 models also measure skin temperature during sleep, and the summary info screen has been improved as well.
The camera app has some improvements over the pro mode in flex mode, the ability to select multiple photos while shooting using the capture view on the main screen, more convenient remake preview, easier Effects can be applied conveniently, as well as the ability to copy and paste tones and filters applied to photos.
Drag and drop now works with two hands – you can select an item to move with one hand and continue the gesture with the other. This can be found in “My Files” and the Home screen. You can also use your phone while charging other devices via wireless battery sharing, and if you place it on a surface with its main screen facing down – you can use the outer screen.
There are other improvements in storage and memory management and Samsung Internet screen layout can be customized to your liking.
This is definitely a bigger update than .1.1. One UI 5.1.1 is expected to be officially launched alongside the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 at a special event at the end of this month. So its focus on folding functionality is no coincidence. Older Fold and Flip family members will receive the final update to One UI 5.1.1 after the latest models arrive, probably around August or September. Before then, the beta program may also spread to other regions, we will keep you informed.
