Samsung’s next-generation flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, is getting closer to official status amidst numerous leaks. According to @Tech_Reve, the company may have a surprise for us – a foldable tablet that will be unveiled alongside the Tab S9 series.
The so-called Galaxy Z Tab will be part of the Z line of foldable devices. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the device – will it be triple foldable as earlier rumors imagined? That’s not clear, and probably even unlikely (having two hinges adds significant complexity).
According to patent design drawings filed by Samsung, this is what this tablet might have looked like a few years ago. The patent shows dual hinges that allow the tablet to fold forward or backward, depending on whether the user wants to close the display to protect it or create a smaller display with an aspect ratio.
Samsung Patented Dual Fold Tablet Design
Of course, patent drawings don’t always turn out to be reality, and a single-hinge design would be simpler to make – Samsung has launched four generations of Z Folds , and it’s a matter of scaling it to tablet size.
With the Galaxy Tab S9 looming, we should have more solid information on Samsung’s future lineup. Additionally, Apple’s first foray into foldable devices is expected to be the iPad rather than the iPhone. Ming-Chi Kuo says it will launch on 1440, so Samsung still has time to beat its main rival to the market.
