Samsung's $299 Galaxy Buds 2 Pro get high-fidelity audio if you have the right phone

What’s going on

Samsung’s $230 Galaxy Buds 2 Pro feature the company’s 360-degree audio and higher-quality sound, As long as they are compatible with Galaxy phones.

Why it matters

Samsung’s high-end Galaxy earphones include features that rival the Pixel Buds Pro and AirPods Pro, but also pass Lock in exclusive features in its device ecosystem to compete with them.

What’s next

Samsung’s new wireless earbuds with Galaxy Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series, Both will be released in late August.

Samsung at its August Unpacked event Showing off the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Wireless Earbuds Folding 4 , with the Galaxy Z Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series. They cost $230 (£219, AU$349) and will ship on 26 August.

Like the previous Galaxy Buds Pro , Samsung is making a big push Touts how the wireless earbuds support what it calls 360-degree audio, which should provide a surround sound experience. But to use this feature, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro need to be connected to a supported Galaxy phone with at least Android 8.0 and Samsung One UI 4.1 overlay.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro also support 24-bit High Definition Audio, but this feature also requires a Galaxy phone with Samsung One UI 4.0 or later.

In addition to those Galaxy-only enhancements, the wireless earphones do have Active Noise Cancellation, and the battery is rated for 5 hours, with noise cancelling extending to 20 hours of use charging case. The buds can last up to 8 hours without noise reduction, which can be extended to 30 hours with the case.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are IPX7 water-resistant and sweat-resistant, making them perfect for the gym or rainy days, and they come in three colors: Bora Purple, White, and Graphite.

Galaxy Buds series often have creative designs (I’m still looking for a sequel Bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live ), but sadly it continues an industry trend of needing to match phones for the best sound quality. Google’s new Pixel Buds Pro also requires a Pixel phone to provide spatial audio, while Apple includesAirPods with Apple devices User when pairing.
