Sandown Supercars: SVG, Davidson Top Wild Qualifying

Lap records fell in both quarters, with Van Gisbergen taking the lead in lowering the benchmark in the first quarter.

That lap of 1:7.446 secured Van Gisbergen a pole position in Race 2 over Ford’s rival Cam Waters.

Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney were third and fourth, both within a tenth of pole in a very tight race.

Scott Pye and David Reynolds are followed by Will Brown and the impressive James Golding.

Andre Heimgartner and Brodie Kostecki rounded out the top 10 while both Dick Johnson cars missed out.

Race 1 winner Davidson missed 11th in the second round with an electrical short, which set his battery on fire in his first race.

Davidson was forced to limp back to the pits when his DJR crew quickly corrected the second quarter when the cabin filled with smoke.

Meanwhile, De Pasquale was only 13th in the first quarter.

Davidson hit me back with great style in the second quarter as he further lowered the record with a 1:07.207 pole win.

Traffic helped his career a little, though, with Van Gisbergen getting purple in the first and second quarters.

Red Bull Holden was then stopped by Jack Smith in the final section, giving Davidson pole position.

“I haven’t played yet, literally,” Davidson said after the second meeting.

“It was like a bad cigar. The first class was stressful. I just wanted to get it back because I didn’t want to cause the red, but I struggled half a circle there.

“We got it back and it’s a great way to repay the kids. I know we had a great time and that inspired the drive to dig and destroy it. “

De Pasquale improved a lot in the second quarter, followed by Mark Winterbottom, Most and Waters.

Reynolds Zee and Thomas Randle are followed by Feeney and Brown.

The first of two starts at 1:05 p.m. local time.
