Every Saturday Night Live fan has a favorite sketch, even The SNL actor himself. Before the last episode aired this December 10 and hosted by Elvis star Austin Butler — who also serves as Cecily Strong’s last episode after her 17 – Season Run of NBC Sketch Comedy Series – Hollywood Reporter Asking members for sketches inspired the cast, who dreamed of one day making audiences laugh at Studio 8H on a Saturday night.
Yang Bowen
“This is Charlize Theron’s sketch for The Gemini Twins. I can’t believe they made the set look like TRL, and the music video looks like an actual Destiny’s Child production. It’s comedy, pop culture, characters, and music all rolled into one.”
Kenan Thompson
“Celebrity Fever with Eddie Murphy’s ‘James Brown’ Water Tub Party’.” Heidi Gardner
“Sketch for Eddie Murphy as James Brown going into the hot tub. My mom and dad saw it and had to show it to me and my brother. I love thinking about our family in my childhood living room LOL. My brother did get in one once when he was ‘too hot in the hot tub’ and jumped out like Eddie!”
Cecily Strong
“I’m not sure if there was a sketch that made me think, ‘Now I want to be on the show,’ because I wanted to be on the show the moment I knew there was a show – must have been young because I knew I tricked my nanny when I was 5 or 6 into thinking my parents were absolutely making me stay up on Saturday nights to watch it. I definitely recreated the “Bill Swerski’s Big Fan” sketch for the talent show. I may often imitate Mike Myers’ characters and sketches. I’m sure I’ve had a bad impression of every SNL character at some point in my life. ”
“I distinctly remember obsessing over ‘The Dog Show’ with Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell. It’s just a really weird and hilarious sketch. I always howl when I see it – like a human, not a dog. “
Mikey Day
“‘Massive Headwound Harry’ with Dana Carvey in the titular role. It’s so goofy it’s awesome. “
Ego Nwodim
“‘Mr. Robinson’s neighbor’. ’ It’s the perfect edgy yet goofy nod to such a lovely show. Eddie Murphy’s ability to say such shocking things while keeping a charming smile on his face just captivates me Like, “Should I be laughing at this? ! “But I always have been.”
“Makes me want to be on SNL is Will Forte’s “Spelling Bee” sketch. Forte is my all-time favorite, and this sketch is so quirky and perfect, just my type.”
2021
Ponkie Johnson
“‘More Cowbell’ because I love being silly and being silly, it’s the funniest, stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. I love when they break Character…it means people are having fun!”
