Scenario Script: Rian Johnson Breaks Down Key Moments From 'The Glass Onion: Mystery of the Wild'

Johnson said he thought of the scene before he figured out the structure of the Glass Onion. “I thought, ‘How interesting it would be to do the ending scene somewhere in the first act, the Blanc-wrapping-the-whole-thing-up scene, and basically remove the expectation of their mystique. Is it all about mystery?” he said. “This scene declares that [what] you think you’re adapting to is not what the movie is actually going to be.”

“My general approach when I write is to write for the reader,” Johnson It’s not “an instruction manual for making a movie,” he explained of his stage direction. Instead, the script gives a sense of what the movie will be. “I’m trying to make it a great book in all departments, including actors,” he added. “The most useful thing I can do for them is to let them experience the movie experience.”

The humor of the scene comes from Blank’s self-satisfaction in Miles’ shock and disappointment, Johnson explains: “In fact, Blank Was having the time of his life, and he wasn’t being mean – he didn’t mean to irritate Miles.”

Limited “real estate” ensemble, Johnson admits his Conversations are strategic. “Every line, even a handy joke, should reinforce the meaning of the character in the audience’s mind. It’s all about [Birdie’s] forgetfulness [ness], it’s not quite clear what she’s causing by being glib about it. Pain. Things that look like throwaways, you have to take them away and make sure they actually work.”

Johnson and Daniel Craig came up with this rehearsal lines. “Actually, when I was in rehearsals with the actors, I never cared about the lines,” Johnson says. “I cherish why those words are there. Most of the time we end up just doing what is prescribed, but if we can beat that, or find a little thing that makes sense and amplify it, I’m always happy for that. “

“When our amazing special effects guy rigged up the blood, and when our prop man Kris Peck rigged up the popping arrows, we got a magical effect,” recalls Johnson road. “That was the only shoot we ever did. Everyone on set started clapping because it was just luck of the lottery.”
