Oscar-winning actor and pro-Ukrainian activist Sean Penn has signed on to star in the Ukrainian film drama War Eyes Animals .
This film is a nine-part anthology directed by nine Ukrainian filmmakers telling the war stories of UKRAINE Images involved in the conflict are viewed through the eyes of various animals. Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, famous Ukrainian director The Tribe (2021) will direct the ninth and final segment, and Penn will play an American sound engineer who inadvertently becomes a witness to the outbreak of war in February 
, 2022, Russian army invaded.
Filming of this segment is scheduled to take place in Ukraine and Los Angeles during the summer of .
Payne has been an outspoken supporter of Ukraine since the war began. The two-time Oscar winner was in Ukraine filming a documentary for Vice Studios when the war broke out. The film, co-directed with Aaron Kaufman, was originally intended to be a tongue-in-cheek performance of the comedian-turned-president, Volodymyr Zelensky. Instead, it became a superpower , depicting Zelensky’s heroic wartime leadership . When the film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year, Payne took the opportunity to call on Western governments to provide greater military support for Ukraine .
