Sean Strickland quits headlines with Jared Cannonier at UFC fight on Oct. 15

Sean Strickland will not be racing in October.

Following week 6 of DWCS Season 6 in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, UFC President Dana White revealed to members of the media that due to Strickland’s finger infection, He will no longer play in the scheduled main event against Jared Cannonier on October 15th. MMA Fighting later confirmed the news with multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans.

White also announced that there will be no replacement for Cannonier and that the fight has been taken off the card. A person with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting that there has been no news about the rescheduling.

All week, Strickland has been posting photos and videos of the infection, leading to speculation that the fight is in jeopardy. Strickland now needs surgery to repair the damage. The 31-year-old is hoping to recover from a first-round knockout loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 276 in July.

Cannonier is also hoping to return to the ring after winning the column by unanimous decision against Israel Adesanya in his first title chance at UFC 276.
