Sennheiser has been making premium headphones for decades. As technology evolves, its headphones keep pace by incorporating new technology. But when it comes to style, Sennheiser has always stood his ground. Its headphones have always had a unique, elegant designer look – Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless is a great example.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless will be available for pre-order on August 9th, with general availability on August 23rd – Sennheiser has taken a more traditional approach. In fact, looking at the Momentum 4 Wireless, it’s impossible not to think that Sennheiser is directly targeting Sony’s popular XM series of headphones.
This is a smart move, and I think Sennheiser has done a fantastic job with the Momentum 4 wireless. These headphones have all the latest features, incredible battery life and better sound quality than Sony’s XM series headphones. But should you buy it?

NEW STYLE
As these photos show, Sennheiser has Designs for headphone enthusiasts turned to designs that would appeal to large audiences from work at home to on-board. When it comes to business, the Momentum 4 Wireless looks like it’s in business. They don’t draw much attention when answering Zoom calls, and they fit all the Sony and Bose headphones you see on airline flights these days.
The Momentum 4 wireless is very comfortable. I was initially concerned that there was very little padding under the headband. But after wearing the Momentum 4 Wireless for over 100 hours at this point, I can tell you that between the comfortable earcups, the perfect grip, and an overall low weight, the Momentum 4 Wireless is a joy to wear for extended periods of time . No pinching crowns, no ear sweats, no other fatigue-inducing elements, just all-day (or all-day) comfort.

The Momentum 4 Wireless case is exactly what you’d expect: a zippered, reinforced soft side to hold the earphones, a USB-C charging cable , headphone cables, and my old friend, the increasingly irrelevant airplane adapter. The shell material matches the outside of the headband
The Momentum 4 Wireless will not collapse completely. Like the Sony WH1000-XM5, the earcups simply swivel for a flatter profile, and that’s it. As such, the case is a bit larger than those with more compact headphones, although I didn’t find that annoying.
Momentum 4 Features
Momentum 4 Wireless has only one button. A short press brings up your phone’s digital assistant. Press and hold for 3 seconds to turn the headset on or off, or press and hold for 5 seconds to put the headset in pairing mode. While I think it’s silly for the two commands to be separated by a two-second press, it wasn’t an issue in the end thanks to the headset’s Bluetooth auto-pairing feature.
The remaining controls for music and calls are located on the surface of the right earcup. Tap the earcups to play/pause, swipe back and forth to advance or rewind a track, and swipe up and down to control volume. Call-related gestures are activated when you answer or answer a call.

The left earcup does nothing but produce great sound.
Unfortunately, Momentum 4 Wireless doesn’t seem to have an auto-off feature, eg the trigger didn’t get worn out after 15 minutes of use. I know this because I pack them in my backpack, throw the backpack in the back seat of my car, drive home, and have frequent bluetooth connectivity issues with my car stereo because the Momentum 4 Wireless keeps on driving Trying to connect to my phone. When I got to my destination, I noticed that my phone was still connected to the headset. When I took the backpack out of the trunk, I heard the sound coming from the earphones inside. I find this odd because the earphones have an excellent sensor inside the earcups that prompts them to pause the music when they’re removed from the head.
It turns out that the sensor is so sensitive that it can mistake the earphones for being pressed against the head when they are clipped into the case. So it might be a good idea to turn them off manually, but if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world, as the Momentum 4 Wireless has industry-leading battery life.
As you might expect, there is an app you can use on the Momentum Wireless 4, and it offers nice features. Set the ANC to automatically adjust to your environment, or manually control the effectiveness of the ANC, from full block mode all the way to transparent mode. You can also create and name “zones” so that the headphones can have custom ANC and/or EQ settings based on the zones you use frequently. As for that EQ control? This is a very basic three-band affair, with basic bass, mids, and treble adjustments. Frankly, I never felt the need to adjust the EQ.
Momentum 4 Specifications
Momentum 4 Wireless uses Bluetooth version 5.2 with support for AAC, AptX and Aptx Adaptive Codecs. I found the bluetooth connection to be both very stable and very long range. I was able to walk about 100 feet from my phone without hearing the music I was listening to. I didn’t experience any signal loss until I turned a corner and placed a couple of walls between myself and the headphones. In other words, the connection strength of the Momentum 4 Wireless is the best in its class.
How is the battery life? Dig this: 60 hours – that’s with ANC on. Turn off ANC and they’ll go longer. That’s double the battery life of the Sony XM5 in the long run. I’ve been testing battery life requirements, and after 63 hours of listening with active noise cancellation, I still have battery backup. Frankly, I think it’s incredible. Well done Sennheiser.
Momentum 4 Noise Reduction
While Sony and Bose still offer some of the most effective noise-canceling features in headphones today, Sennheiser is fast catching up. The Momentum 4 Wireless’ ANC is so good that I couldn’t spot a difference between them and the Sony XM5 in a head-to-head comparison when playing music. It wasn’t until I turned off the music and used ANC alone that I was able to hear the Sony XM5 reduce wider noise to a slightly quieter level than the Momentum 4 Wireless.

still , while the Sony XM5 (as well as the XM4) may technically have slightly better noise cancellation, but I think the Momentum 4 Wireless’ ANC is good enough in practice to keep most listeners quite happy.
Momentum 4 Call Quality
I think the call quality of the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless is very good. During my testing, the person on the other end of my phone reported that my voice was very clear. Until I walked into a busy street with noisy cars and buses passing by. At that point, some of the noise around me did seep into the call. However, this is typical of most headphones, but it’s worth noting that the Sony XM5, Bose NC 700, and Apple AirPods Max all filter out ambient noise better when making calls.
Another area of ​​improvement in call quality is the way the user’s voice is piped into the headset. When I’m on a phone call, I have a hard time hearing myself, like with the competing headphones mentioned above, so I have to monitor the volume at which I speak.
Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless is unmatched in terms of call quality, however, it reduces wind noise. I’ve never heard wind noise so effectively on any other headphone I’ve tested in the past few years.
Momentum 4 Sound Quality
In Let’s not beat around the bush here: the overall sound quality of the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless is better than the Sony XM5 and Bose QC45. Bose NC 700 and Apple AirPods Max. Granted, sound quality is highly subjective, but for me, the Momentum Wireless 4 delivers a level of refinement, detail, and bass that I don’t think the competition can match.
More bass? Yes. But also better bass.
When I first started listening to music on the Momentum 4 Wireless, the bass was most prominent. Now, to be clear, the Momentum brand’s bass is always more pronounced than most of Sennheiser’s other headphone offerings. However, the bass in the Momentum Wireless 4 isn’t just about articulation (aka, bass-forward), it’s deep, melodious, and poignant, somehow surpassing competing models from Sony, Bose, and Apple. Yes, it’s bass, but it’s also better Bass.
Once I was satisfied with the bass performance, I noticed a very open, spacious soundstage. With the Sony Xm5, the audio image seems to pop into your head. With the Momentum 4 Wireless, however, the soundstage seems to be all around you. I usually only hear the depth of sound holography, precise instrument placement, and other elements in the highest-end wired headphones I’ve tested.
Plus, I feel the treble is more refined than most competing headphones, and the detail, clarity and texture are sure to please audiophiles. I also really like the clarity of the vocals, whose transparency is more like an open-back headphone than a closed-back design, let alone one that uses active noise cancellation and digital sound processing to achieve its sound signature. For me, this is especially remarkable.

More broadly, I just have more fun listening to music on the Momentum 4 Wireless. There’s more to dig into. Pay more attention. If you’re more of a passive listener, you might not be able to record some of the depth and detail, but you don’t need an audiophile to hear how great the Momentum 4 wireless headphones sound.
Our opinion
Sennheiser The Momentum 4 Wireless are a great set of headphones with very effective noise cancellation, solid call quality and great sound quality. If Sennheiser’s mission was to make the model competitive with the capabilities of Sony’s vaunted XM4 and XM5 headphones, but with better sound fidelity, then I’d say: Mission accomplished.
Is there a better option?
Sony XM4 and XM5, Bose QC45 and NC Both the 700 and Apple AirPods Max offer slightly better noise cancellation and call quality. Those who use headphones as a business tool as well as a recreational tool may find one of these alternatives more suitable. However, for those who prioritize sound quality and battery life, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless will be a better choice.
