Ralph, 02, in daily work at Abbott Elementary School Taking a break from the set to talk to the Hollywood Reporter about her runway show ensemble (“It’s classy, not ratchet”) and whether she’s following any Savage in the new season X Fenty pieces (“I sent the link to my husband”), and whether she’s taking a call from a fashion designer right now she’s won an Emmy (“If it happens, it happens.”).
What is it like to be a model on the show?
First of all, the choreography is great and different. The music is excellent. set, lighting. I mean, I thought I was teleported far away from Simi Valley.
Quick shot?
That’s not much to say. Since I had to catch a flight, they worked hard. It’s really about four or five hours.
What are you wearing?
I was wearing a snake green bodysuit jumpsuit. It’s kind of sexy. I like it because it’s classy and not ratchet, so it’s really cute. My husband thought it was kind of pretty.

Do you know Rihanna? Or did you just get a request for a gig?
It’s that simple, [one request]. Everyone who got the call was ecstatic. It feels so good because earlier this year, she won the [National Hero Award] From Barbados, I received the [Jamaica Medal of Honor]. Check out what we island girls do!
What do you think of the Savage X Fenty brand?
I like this brand. I’ve worn it before, but that’s my private life. I’m so glad she was able to create this line with such inclusive quality and style. I really remember at some point in my career a design company told me I wasn’t the kind of body they wanted to wear, and it was vulgar inside and out. To this day, I don’t wear that thread every time I see their name. I would never wear their thread. I’m sure they’ve changed since then, but that’s what they say.
Which designer would you pour tea on?
No, I would never say that. Why bother with negativity? On the positive side, now that we have body positivity, people are more receptive to different shapes and bodies. Here’s how I see it – if my body is vulgar, so is Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce is vulgar, and so are a lot of other curvy guys who come and go.
Are there any Savage X Fenty items on your radar that are available for the fall?
Trust me, I sent the link to my husband and I said, “Give me a Surprise.”
Johnny Depp also appeared on Savage X Fenty. What do you think of his looks and some of the backlash Rihanna received for putting him on the show?
I was told a long time ago that PR is a fun thing as long as they talk about you , it’s doing its job.
Now you’re back to filming Abbott’s new season of Elementary on set , did you feel radiant after the Emmys?
Every time people ask me about this show and the people I work with and what I think about it I always choked up when I felt it because I knew I was getting a very special gift. We come to work, we laugh, we talk, and we get to work. We love each other, it’s amazing, I just want it to stay that way, as long as God allows. We know we’re in show business heaven.
Are you getting more calls from designers asking you to be at Emmy Dressing for you after the award?
I haven’t really entered yet. I’m reading an article at the New York Fashion Awards where [designer Brandon Blackwood] and [stylist Roberto Johnson] say they can’t understand what’s going on 7 days before the Emmys and no designer has come forward for me dress up. They thought, God must be saying this is their chance. That’s how I see it. Will I run down and chase someone to dress me? No, if it happens, it will happen. Now, my daughter does an amazing job of styling me, hitting it as long as I keep hitting it.
