Snowpiercer,TNT, Now is the latest show to be scrapped in Warner Bros. Discovery’s ongoing content write-off.
Although production is complete, the show’s fourth and final season will not air on TNT.
“TNT will not air a fourth season of Snowpiercer,” a network spokesperson said in a statement . “It was a difficult decision, but we still have tremendous admiration for the talented writers, cast and crew who brought to life the remarkable post-apocalyptic world of Snowpiercer. Since last year , we have been working with the producers to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy compelling stories and exceptional visual experiences. We look forward to working with them on future projects.”
Tomorrow Studios, which makes the post-apocalyptic drama, will find another home for the show, with CEO/Partner Marty Adelstein and President/Partner Becky Clay Menz (Becky Clements) said in a statement their own. The studio has bought back the rights to the entire series, so it can sell the entire library, along with a fourth season, to potential buyers.
“We loveSnowpiercer and believe that season four has accomplished a story with incredible talent that it will delight audiences while exploring issues like climate change and class struggle,” said Adelstein and Clements. “We’re so passionate about the series that we’ve been awarded the rights to control the franchise. We hope to find the perfect partner soon and have an amazing journey through the final season.”
TNT announced in June Season 4 of Snowpiercer — based on Bong Joon Ho 1235297922 movie, which in turn is based on a graphic novel about a frozen Earth whose surviving inhabitants travel around the globe on a never-ending train — will be the last of it. It will be the last local drama to air on TNT, as WBD cut scripted programming on the channel and its sister channels TBS and TruTV. As it stands, that title goes to Animal Kingdom, which ended its six-season run in August.
The show is one of many that WBD is rolling out to various platforms as it looks to save billions in costs following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger. They include the completed Batgirl movie slated for HBO Max, the second season of the TBS comedy Chad( Finally on Roku ), HBO Max’s Minx (landing Hundreds of library episodes on Starz) and HBO Max, including Looney Tunes and Sesame Street.
Other companies, notably AMC Networks, have adopted a similar strategy of not renewing shows or call back series orders as balance sheets slump in the red due to the economic downturn and hangovers from the early free-spirited era of streaming.
Paul Zbyszewski joins Snowpiercer as No. Producer of Four Seasons and Executive Produced Finale with Christoph Schrewe, Adelstein, Clements, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt, Scott Derrickson, and Filmmakers: Bong, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi.
Deadline was first on the news.
