Sony Classics Acquires Irish Drama 'The Miracle Club' Starring Laura Linney, Maggie Smith and Kathy Bates

Sony Pictures Classics makes big move into Irish drama The Miracle Club, starring Laura Linney, Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates and Agnes O’Casey has rights to the United States, Latin America, and much of Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe.

Directed by Emmy nominee Thaddeus O’Sullivan (Vera, Call the Midwife ), produced by Chris Colin, Joshua Maurer and Larry Bass, filmed in Dublin last year and is currently in post-production.

In The Miracle Club, the women of Ballygar village have only one seductive dream in Dublin On the outskirts, experience freedom and escape the challenges of family life: win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, a wonderland that attracts millions of tourists every year. With a little kind intervention from their local priest, best friends Lily, Erin and Dolly, funny, messy, flawed and outspoken, get the ticket to go on a lifetime of humorous, happy and uplifting journey.

Having never even left Dublin – let alone Ireland – the journey gives the heroine the opportunity to reflect on her life, which every woman is looking for A personal miracle of your own life. But when Chrissy, who recently returned from a decades-long exile in the United States, joins them, a painful truth is revealed. Only then, through the power of love and friendship, can the deep wounds of the past be healed.

Embankment Films, with Curling’s Zephyr Films Arranged production financing through Ireland’s BCP and Ingenious Media, led to US deal, and early pre-sales in a range of international territories, including UK Transmissions from Lionsgate and Australia. It has previously worked with Sony Pictures Classics on films including The Son, The Father and The Wife.

“Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates and Laura Linney are in Peak, Bickering director Thaddeus O’Sullivan’s touching and humorous journey to Lourdes will be a rich and rewarding experience for audiences around the world,” Sony Pictures Classics It added that the company had previously released several films starring the three female leads.
