“I think our collections are always an evolution of who we are and what we do,” Stand Studio designer Nellie Kamras said by phone. She and the team designed the collection after visiting New York and spending a lot of time in vintage stores in Brooklyn, which explains the focus on wardrobe staples like wool coats and bomber jackets, but the collection isn’t aimed at A themed design, rather it has to do with textiles and mood.
Textures and materials always come first at Stand. This season Kamras is particularly interested in denim-look suede. “We always want surprises, so what you see isn’t necessarily what you get,” she said. The fall collection also brought fresh silhouettes. Gone is the wink-wink Y2K cuteness of last season, replaced by a product that feels more grown-up. A well-tailored, monochrome coat can lend boss-maid vibes (or disrupt that message if paired with Stand’s furry shoes.)
The collection is also more form-fitting, exuding a Sultry sexiness, thanks in part to the casting of Danish model Ash Fjeldhagen, who has such a confident presence. The garments, which retain the fun and conviviality that the Stand is known for, mostly in the form of Muppet-like faux fur — a fuzzy coat in neon green, another in red and fuchsia and geometric patterns — are alluring Attention. Think of them as the clothing equivalent of highlighter.
