Paramount+ has confirmed rumors of a
episode of the musical Star Trek and released a surprise trailer (below) for the upcoming second season of Strange New Worlds
. The episode is titled “Rhapsody in Subspace,” and it’s being billed as the first music-themed episode in the series’ year history (there have been musical scenes before). Subspace Rhapsody will feature original songs, as well as a musical version of the series’ main title, composed and written by Kay Hanley (Letter to Cleo)
and Tom Polce (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
).
Announced Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ hosted a Star Trek
franchise-only session in Hall H.
According to what was shown in the trailer, the USS Enterprise was hit by a space anomaly and the crew started singing.
In addition, Paramount+ will also release Strange New Worlds
and Lower Decks
live-action and animated crossover episodes in advance. The episode will air on the streaming service starting today at 4 p.m. The remainder of the season will premiere on September 7.
The company also released some first look art for the episode as well as a trailer for Lower Decks
Season 4.
