Sarah Staudinger loves summer even more, and she loves making clothes for summer (which, to her, is endless, being a native Cali girl). “Pre-Fall is my personal favorite collection to design. I love summer and it’s an undeniably upbeat collection,” Staudinger explained through a zoom lens. That optimism was on full display in mother-of-pearl bras and dolphin-print mini dresses. A wrinkle-resistant jersey and Ponte matching skirt in classic red and black travels easily and suits a variety of needs. “[Clothes have to] be able to take you anywhere and be ready for anything,” she adds. “From beach vacation to work.”
palm tree handbags, recycled nylon tunics, and crochet dresses in bright shades of coral, lime green, and brown (she’s pushing to be summer’s color) are easily transported to the beach. Workwear doesn’t immediately come to Staud’s mind, but for those back at the office, there was a white button-up and black midi skirt (dress, actually) made from the same wrinkle-resistant knit she’s loved this season. Likewise, new collections of classics such as cotton poplin shirts, denim sailor pants and mix-and-match suits are now part of Staud’s playful and colorful universe.
“The brand and I are the same — we are the same person,” explains Staudinger, as her brand’s number one client (after all, she wore a custom Staud gown to the wedding reception) , there’s no category she’s afraid to tackle, which means that soon, there will be a Tommy bag for every occasion.
