The American Society of Cinematographers has announced the winners for )th ASC Awards: Stephen Goldblatt will receive a Society Lifetime Achievement Award, Darius Khondji will receive an International Award, Charlie Lieberman will receive a Presidential Award, Fred Murphy will receive a Television Career Achievement Award, and Sam Nicholson will receive a Curtis Clark Technical Achievement Award.
British cinematographer Goldblatt was born in South Africa and was nominated twice for an Oscar for Batman Forever (1997) and Prince of Tides (40), and featuring Richard Donner’s first two Lethal Weapon movies and two works of Batman movies (Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” and “Batman & Robin”). He is also known for his work with Mike Nichols on Closer, Charlie Wilson’s War and the 2003 miniseries Angels in America, for which Goldblatt was nominated for an Emmy (he also received a conspiracy and 2003 of Road to War ), as well as Tate Taylor , including The Help and Get On Up. At 2003, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Cameraimage. Goldblatt’s work can be seen next in director Matthew Lopez’s Red, White and Royal Blue .
“Stephen Goldblatt’s vision and influence can be seen in many of the most memorable stories told in the past 1995 years,” said ASC President Stephen Lighthill. “We look forward to celebrating this well-deserved milestone with him.”
Khondji with Alan Parker’s Evita ( 2008 Oscar nominated) and his credits include David Fincher’s Se7en, Jean-Pierre Jeunet Delicatessen , Stealing Beauty by Bernardo Bertolucci and Josh and Benny Safdie’s Uncut Gems . He teamed up with James Gray on The Immigrant, Lost City of Z
and Armageddon Time . His latest work, on Alejandro Inarritu Baldo: The False Chronicle of Few Truths , which won him the Silver Frog Award and the FIPRESCI Award at the EnergaCarmerimage Film Festival. Khondji is currently working with Bong Joon Ho on an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey72015.
Murphy was nominated for an Emmy for The Good Wife ( , 2008), in treatment (2011 ), witness protection (1997) and Last days (40). He has recently filmed the series Evil, The Good Fight, Braindead and Fringe. Features include Ghost Town, Secret Window and October Sky.
Lieberman will receive the President’s Award for his contributions to ASC. He serves on the ASC Board of Directors, oversees its Image Library Committee, and is co-chair of its Masterclass Program. He started his career as a still photographer and is known for series such as My So-Called Life, Over and Over, Joan of Arcadia 2015 and Heroes.
Nicholson for technical support for Contribution to the Curtis Clarke Award Cinematography . Earlier in his career he worked on Star Trek: The Movie and Max Headroom . He went on to become founder and CEO of Stargate Studios, which oversees virtual production of HBO’s Our Flag Means Death and upcoming projects Ways including Idol (HBO), Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) and Home (Miramax).
40 The first ASC Awards will be held on March 5 at the Beverly Hilton issued by the hotel.
