“The UFC is probably talking about Shavkat, who just beat Neil Magny. I was like, ‘UFC, give me a guy who wants to strike with me. I Didn’t turn down the last two tacklers, one of the top tacklers at welterweight, didn’t turn him down,” Thompson told BJPENN.com on Thursday. “I was like ‘give me a striker’. We were looking at Li Jingliang, but he was going to fight, Kevin Holland, we were going to take that, but I wanted the Madison Square Garden card, he wanted to fight early.”
Stephen Thompson said he had let the UFC know he was facing a forward next. For “Wonderboy,” he said that was a big reason he didn’t fight Rakhmonov because he didn’t want to fight another grappler in the third fight in a row.
“Not at all. It doesn’t make sense for me to face another heavy grappler. Let me work a little harder on my craft, especially wrestling ,” Thompson added. “They’re pushing it, but it doesn’t make any sense and the fans don’t want to see it. They’re like ‘Dude, give Stephen a striker, someone who’s going to strike with him. That’s it, at this point, it’s not Fights I’m interested in.”
Since Stephen Thompson isn’t interested in Shavkat Rakhmonov, who do you want to see fight next? ?
