Shayda, Sundance Audience Award winner for Iranian-Australian director Noora Niasari, will close this year’s Locarno International Film Festival.
Executive Produced by Cate Blanchett , Shayda Starring “Holy Spider-Man” actress Zal Amir Ebrahimi. Shayda will be screened on the last night of the Locarno Film Festival on Saturday, August 12, which will be its European premiere. Locarno will also present a second surprise film, personally selected by Marco Solari, President of the Locarno Film Festival, dealing with the history of cinema.
Drawing from the director’s own life, Nyasari’s powerful debut feature tells the inspirational story of an Iranian woman seeking refuge in a women’s shelter after immigrating to Australia A Journey to Freedom.
Blanchett is executive producer of Dirty Films, with Andrew Upton and Coco Francini Co-run the production company. She and Ebrahimi will be present in Locarno together with Niasari.
In August 12, Blanchett will also host Niasari and Ebrahimi at the GranRex Cinema in Locarno in “Iran Women and Iranian Cinema” as the theme.
