Sundance Film Festival Winner “Persia Edition” Comes to Sony Pictures Classics

Sony Pictures Classics Acquired North American Rights to Sundance Award Winning FilmPersian Version, a mother-daughter drama written, directed and produced by Maryam Keshavarz.

The film was critically acclaimed at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award at the American Drama Competition and Waldo in the same sidebar A Salter Award for screenwriting, which drew buyers’ attention to the film and sparked a bidding war that Sony Classics won.

Keshavarz’s film about Iranian immigrants feels neither in America nor in Iran in NY and NJ Layla Mohammadi, Niousha Noor, Kamand Shafeisabet, Bijan Daneshmand, Bella Warda, Chiara Stella, Tom Byrne and Shervin Alenabi star.

The film centers on Iranian-American Leila, played by Mohammadi, who hails from two conflicting countries and struggles to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures while being daring. Challenging the hashtag society was projected onto her so quickly.
