Eugene Hernandez has been named Director and Head of Public Programming at the Sundance Film Festival , following the departure of Tabitha Jackson in June.
Hernandez joined Sundance from the Film School at Lincoln Center, where he has overseen the New York Film Festival for the past three years. He will be in September 16 to October this year Leave after the festival . Prior to joining FLC, Hernandez (serving on advisory boards for SXSW and SeriesFest, among others) was IndieWire, a publication focused on independent films.
“Decades of leadership at Sundance, advocating artistic discovery and independent expression, was the catalyst for a landmark in my life. I immediately connected with its mission and it changed my life,” said Hernandez, who is also a regular member of the Academy.
The festival is led by Joanna Vicente, who has been appointed to succeed Keri Putnam as CEO. Sundance Institute . Vicente is working closely with program director Kim Yutani to prepare for next year’s festival. Hernandez’s first festival as director will be at 2024 Sundance th edition.
