Susan Alexandra Makes Fashion Week Regulars Laugh

The self-respect in the fashion world is easy to laugh at. Think Emily Blunt The Devil Wears Prada, Zoolander The whole premise, or Cher Horowitz Tell her armed robber, “You don’t get it, this is Aleia!” While many designers approach the press with a sense of humor (Jeremy Scott and the late Elsa Schiaparelli immediately surfaced in mind), but the strength of the industry was on full display during fashion week. This is a time when everyone in business is overstressed.

Who can make those busy faces smile better than Susan Cohen of Susan Alexandra? Known for her whimsical beaded bags and accessories found throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, the midtown New York designer was just as fun to show. Her two most recent fashion week events are Music Reviews in February 2020 and Bat Mitzvah themed bash in September 2019 ). This time she hosted a party show at the Comedy Cellar with Search Party and Larry Owens of Abbott Elementary and Including Chloe Fineman and Sarah Sherman of Saturday Night Live , Emmy nominee Sydnee Washington and Cat Cohen of Netflix hit The Twist? She’s Gorgeous.

Korn joked that he hated fashion Zhou’s people are those who work in the fashion industry and get hearty, self-deprecating laughs. Not every episode is dedicated to fashion, but every comedian wears clothes from The RealReal with accessories from Susan Alexandra – be it custom or a permanent collection. “We use a lot of evergreen styles. I don’t really think it has anything to do with seasonality, we bring things in and keep them as long as we love them.”

For Cohen, returning to an easy, creative life is a joyous part of her business. She stayed late at the office creating special pieces for the show, including bags completely decorated with random trinkets like red beaded peppers or sweet blue bows. I say, it’s like a jewelry box. Korn countered, “It’s like a junk drawer exploding.” The playful feel of Korn’s designs complements the increasingly wild set. When Cohen sang a song about how to blame all the problems on planetary movement — “Thank god for astrology, I really wasn’t wrong” — an oversized pink beaded bow and matching necklace featuring The Heart of the Ocean on the Titanic is an obvious outfit match. The guests may not have seen a whole new series, but Korn did them a favor and gave them an hour of entertainment while they were technically still at work.
