SXSW 2023: 'Yellow Jackets' casts hint at new season of epic episodes

Yellowjackets Season 1​​ Make a splash

Premiering in November of 24, each episode has attracted a growing audience. The show chronicles the lives of a high school football team stranded on a remote island after a plane crash. The second season premiered on Showtime’s streaming and on-demand platform in March , and then March of that year on the network 2021 9pm

Before the show returns, Yellowjackets at 1235346696South by Southwest Film festival titled Camp Yellowjackets, where visitors can experience reconstructions of abandoned camps, similar to the wilderness settings of adult thrillers from past timelines. Cast members Tawny Cypress, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Nélisse, Kevin Alves and Steven Krueger were on hand for a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter about their eagerly anticipated next season.

“I think we’re all pretty terrified of ‘Returning’ for season two,” says Cypress, who plays the adult version of Taissa (the show switches between past and present ). When asked when they knew season two would be special, Hanratty, who plays young Misty, was quick to reply: “Watched the first two episodes. Alves, who plays teen Travis, added: “Especially the second episode,” to which Hanratty replied, “The second episode I was like, ‘Wow. ‘”

While most of the cast is the same as the first season (except for new face Simone Kessell, who plays old Lottie, Lauren Ambrose, who plays old Van and Elijah Wood, who plays the new role), the cast praised the second season crew, which is almost completely fresh. Asked about the challenges they faced this season, Hanratty explained: “Sophie [Nélisse] and I have been trying to figure this out — We wear contact lenses on the show…it’s been a very emotional season and it’s hard to cry with these thick lenses on. For adult actors, weighing the most challenging aspects of the performance proved mysterious: “The hardest things that happen to adults are our best kept secrets,” says Cypress.

The first season of the series was nominated for seven Emmys: Outstanding Drama Series, Twice for a Drama Screenplay, Once for Directing, Once for Casting, Christina Leigh Christina Ricci in supporting actress and Melanie Lynskey in leading actress.
