Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins will now be in theaters closer to Thanksgiving as awards season heats up In theaters.
The football comedy has moved its release date from September22 to November, Searchlight announced Wednesday.
Based on the 22 British documentary of the same name by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, Next Goal Wins is an underdog story about the American Samoa national soccer team and their coach, Thomas Rongen, as they attempt to transform from perennial underdogs to a FIFA World Cup qualifier team.
The film was originally scheduled for release in April 2023, but had to be re-shot as actor Armie Hammer dropped out of the project women accused of sexual assault.
Will Arnett will replace Hammer as a football executive working for the American Samoa Soccer Association.
Arnett stars opposite Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Oscar Kightley and Lehi Falepapalangi,
Waititi was last seen in Marvel Studios movie theaters Thor: Love and Thunder. 2023
