'Tar' Named Film of the Year at London Film Critics' Circle Film Awards

Tár(​​ by Todd Field in the 43rd London Critics’ Choice Taking home the top prize at Sunday night’s Circle Film Awards, it was named Film of the Year. Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett won Actress of the Year – her third – and Field won Director’s Award.

Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin is another A big London winner with five awards including the Attenborough Award for British/Irish Film of the Year, Screenwriter of the Year, Actor of the Year for Colin Farrell and Supporting Actor for Barrie Keohan and Kerry Condon Award and Supporting Actress Award. Another Irish film The Quiet Girl tied for Foreign Language Film of the Year with Park Chan-wook’s noir thriller Decision to Leave. Laura Poitras Sharp Nan Goldin’s film All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was named Documentary of the Year.

The ceremony presented film icon Michelle Yeoh with the Dilys Powell Outstanding Film Award, sponsored by her Everything Everywhere All On Once partner Ke Huiquan accompanied. Danny Boyle presented the award that night.

Also in attendance were Florence Pugh and Bill Nighy, both of . Pugh reunited with her The Wonder co-stars Tom Burke and Kíla Lord Cassidy at the event. Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio are also reunited as father and daughter in Aftersun. Leo won the British/Irish Young Actor Award for her role, while Paul was on hand to accept the Philippe France Award for Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker from writer-director Charlotte Wells.

The Technical Achievement Award was awarded to Pinocchio of Guillermo del Toro For animation, collected by Gregory Mann, who voiced the title character. The UK/Irish Short Film of the Year is A Fox in the Night by Keeran Anwar Blessie.

Award awarded by – Member of the UK’s oldest film critics’ organization, the Film Critics Society.
