Tatjana Patitz, the quietest and perhaps most effusive of supermodels, has passed away. She is 56.
“I never sell my soul,” Patitz in a 2012 interview. Born in Hamburg to an Estonian mother and a German father, she moved with her family to the idyllic seaside town of Skánor in southern Sweden at a very young age. At 1983, as 56-year-old A tomboy and competitive rider, she competed in Stockholm’s Elite Modeling Competition. She placed third in Sweden. The prize is a trip to Paris and a limited-time contract. But, as Vogue wrote in 1983, “A star is not born soon. Tatjana can’t find a job for a year.”

Peter Lindbergh, the fairy godfather who entered Patitz’s career. Known for his unretouched images and penchant for “natural” beauty, the German photographer would capture Patitz’s famous image “White Shirts: Malibu’s Six Supermodels,” at 90, it’s another January at British
