Taylor Russell's Y2K-era jeans and strappy sandals combo

Taylor Russell gave us a shock from the past today on the red carpet at the Gotham Awards. The actor with Timothée Chalamet in the movie Bones and All is seen in a chubby white fur jacket: Tom Ford-era Gucci Spring Collection 2004 show. To balance out the megawatt Hollywood effect, the actor instantly transported us back to the era in light-colored jeans and strappy heels.

Russell, in a look reminiscent of Mariah Carey, popularized the strappy sandal and denim combo on the red carpet. At the time, the singer often paired her going-out shoes with low-rise, light-colored flared trousers—sometimes with the belt cut off. Other celebrities backing the group include 20th century red carpet favorite Cameron Diaz and singer Janet Jackson.

Sexy stiletto sandals and jeans paired with regal pieces, like Russell’s white jacket, have a style all their own. (Judging by her Instagram story, it looks like she bought the chubby dress herself from a vintage store.) The overall look was organic and playful, while ticking the boxes of red-carpet styling.
