Team USA wins VET MXdN

Doug Dubach

last weekend at The VMXdN at Foxhills is an unrivaled event due to its dominance in vintage motocross racing. Driving into the venue, I was amazed at the scale of it all. If you hadn’t told me where I was, I would have thought it was a real race of nations. Campers and cars filled the parking lot, and the entire factory was filled with pristine works bikes, accentuating the paddock. Walking around the venue and feeling the different levels of passion for the sport. Hundreds of bikes are maintained and brought to this race, with so much time and effort put into the race with the legends of the sport. The main draw is the team competition, but beyond that it’s impressive to be in other classes or just by name. Dave Thorpe and Rick Johnson were the hosts of the ceremony. RJ wasn’t the only high-profile American who didn’t play in the team competition. Keith Johnson, who is in charge of the Southwick Nationals, was also in attendance. Browsing the list of entries shows many former GP drivers such as Joakim Karlsson (Sweden), Ryan Voase (GB) and Ryan Hunt (South Africa).

Team USA with Mike Brown in team competition Take the championship to win two of the four motos. Ryan Villopoto and Zach Osborne brought enough results to finish first. Brad Anderson, Mel Pocock and Kurt Nicol took Britain to second. In third place are the Northern Ireland teams of Neville Bradshaw, Godan Crockard and Graeme Owen. All these big-name and nostalgic bikes bring a huge crowd to this historic track. The close game between Brown and Anderson delighted the home fans and all Americans in attendance. Throughout the weekend, the crowd was as enthusiastic as it was when they first watched these works bikes race decades ago.
