Introduction
Since our recent review of the Phantom X2 Pro, we assume that most of our readers are now familiar with the Tecno brand. Still, we’ll give you cliff notes. Transsion is one of the brands owned by Chinese tech giant Transsion. It is mainly used in overseas markets, especially in Africa. If you’ve heard of Tecno, it’s likely because of their popular Camon line – a line of great-value devices with a strong focus on the camera experience. However, there’s also the Phantom series, which has more or less been spun into its own separate entity. A product designed to deliver a true flagship device and experience.
The first generation Phantom X was released last year, and now The Phantom X2 series is here. It consists of two devices – the Pro, which we’ve already reviewed, and the vanilla Phantom X2 model, which we have in the office today.

The Phantom X2 series still carries over from its predecessor in some respects, but overall Word is Tecno’s venture into the truly high-end flagship space. Just like its Pro sibling, the Phantom X2 has an attractive premium design and flagship-grade internals, featuring MediaTek Dimensity chipset, curved AMOLED display and large battery pack.

These Highlights are shared between the vanilla and Pro models. In fact, most things are. When making the lower-tier Phantom X2, Tecno decided to keep its Pro sibling as intact as possible. The two phones are almost identical in terms of looks and specs. The vanilla is noticeably missing the Phantom X2 Pro’s retractable portrait telephoto camera.
Even so, the focus on photography is clearly present on the regular Phantom X2. It has a big 64 MP main camera with OIS and autofocus enabled 10 MP Extra Wide 20 MP selfie camera.
Unboxing
Before we get into the camera differences or any other aspect of the Phantom X2, we should check out its retail box. Like its siblings, the vanilla model comes in a large, sturdy cardboard slide-out box.

Box full of accessories, always great . In no particular order, in addition to the mobile phone, in the box, we also found a 45W charger and Type-A to Type-C USB cable. The cable seems to be standard without any extra pins or anything like that, so it can be easily replaced if needed. Also in the box is a nice pair of earbuds with built-in microphones.
Last but not least, Tecno is giving away a hard case for free. It looks and feels really good, and is generally a notch above pretty much every other bundle we’re used to seeing. It even has an integrated kickstand as a bonus feature.
Overall, Tecno really went all out with the retail package for the Phantom X2. It’s hard to complain about all the extra goodies you get in the box.
