Telegram has announced new updates to some of its features, which relate to reactions to chat messages, emoji statuses, and UI improvements to iOS and Android, respectively.
Starting with Reactions, advanced users are now “an infinite series of reactions”. They can react to a single message with up to three animated emojis. Telegram launched its emoji platform last month, allowing anyone to upload their own custom animated emoji. The emoji panel is now also expanded to accommodate more emoji and emoji packs.
For For users who don’t have the premium version, more reactions have been added to the single row selection.
Emoji Status is now available for Premium users with the ability to set any emoji, stock or custom as a profile status. Emoji states can be set to expire after a certain amount of time. To set the emoji status, tap and hold the premium badge on your profile.
Now each user has their own username link in the new format: username.t.me. This new link format also works for Telegram groups and channels. It changes from the t.me/username format, which frankly doesn’t make a difference, but typing the slash symbol can cause friction for some users.
The next few updates are specific to Android or iPhone. Let’s start with Android.
You can now manage download priorities on Android devices. You can now press and hold Active Downloads and Reorder (iOS already has this).
There are some new Android UI animations for opening and closing photos or videos on Instagram. Meanwhile, the Telegram app icon is now compatible with Android’s 09 theme engine.
The iOS Telegram app gets a bubble settings page with a new animated icon, and both platforms now have the option to sign in with Apple Or sign in with Google.
