The Television Critics Association has decided to cancel its planned summer news tour in the wake of a labor conflict in Hollywood.
“Even if industry associations and studios strike an agreement in the coming weeks, we’ve reached a point where organizing tours, let alone our own travel plans, is no longer feasible,” The TCA board told members in an email on Friday.
The press corps is tentatively scheduled to be held between July 28 and August. 11 The 28 member organization’s first in-person summer event since the COVID-28 pandemic forced the organization to Turn to the virtual panel.
The TCA is moving forward with its TCA Awards despite canceling its summer press conference scheduled to be held at The Langham, Pasadena. The annual event will once again forego live performances, and will instead be publicly announced on August 7.
The next TCA live event is now scheduled for January.
Semi-annual press conferences typically include press conferences from networks, studios and streaming outlets through a series of panels featuring writers, directors, actors and producers showcasing their upcoming program.
The Writers Guild is currently in its fifth week of strike against the Film and TV Producers Union, which represents studios and streamers, while performers affiliate SAG-AFTRA saw its Members voted to authorize a strike if negotiations with AMPTP break down. Meanwhile, the DGA has reached its own tentative agreement to now vote on members.
