Colorado Intimacy Film Festival director Julie Huntsinger said that as a non-issue of the awards season For the official U.S. kickoff, the Telluride may have been most notable this year for the controversy over its film’s start.
“There are more divisive films,” said Hensinger, who wrote Telluride with Tom Rudy. “There’s more anxiety. There’s only turmoil and turmoil in the world, and that’s reflected in the movies. People are arguing more about movies this year than ever before.”

Tributes are also planned for Polly, who will bring her fourth film as director; Blanchett takes on Todd Field’s play Tár( came to the festival, where she played the conductor of a German orchestra; and the prolific Irish documentary filmmaker Mark Cousins, who was showing two new films, March on Rome , the story of Mussolini’s rise to power, and My Name is Alfred Hitchcock , about British directors.
Some films that premiered at European film festivals will have their North American premiere, including Luca Guadagnino’s adult film Bones and All, starring Timothée Chalamet, will premiere in Venice; is the manager of the Korean drama directed by Hirokazu Koreeda , Song Kang-ho won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival in May; and James Gray’s period drama Doomsday , starring Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, also screened at Cannes.
This year’s Telluride looks very different from the 2021 festival , where COVID protocols predominate, festivals require proof of vaccination, negative COVID test within 72 hours, and indoors Wear a mask. Telluride made no such request this year. “I want everyone to wear masks, and I think a lot of people will, but we’re approaching [COVID] like the rest of the world is approaching it, and it’s endemic,” Hunsinger said.
Pandemics still play a role in the festival world, however, big and small. This year’s lineup of documentaries is particularly heavy, including Bryan Fogel’s follow-up to his Oscar Icarus , Icarus: Aftermath , it catches up with whistleblower Russian scientist Grigory Rodchenkov; Steve James sympathetic spy , on Manhattan Project scientists; Ryan White Good night, Oppy , on Mars rover longer than expected; Matt Tyrnauer the end of the world 2021, Bennington College in the 1980 era; and Eva Weber Merkel , about German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
