2023 The Oscars celebrated the best movie performances of the year, but the actors on the red carpet showed their best beforehand STYLISH PERFORMANCE – Closing out an exciting awards season with their best ensemble. Many stars have opted for designs where tradition meets modernity, resulting in a look that looks familiar (glamorous and glitzy!) yet totally fresh.
White proved to be the breakout color of the evening: The stars gravitated towards a minimal, if not a bit bridal look. Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams, for example, sparkled in her Chanel couture dress with a sheer embellished cape. Fellow nominee Michelle Yeoh went the feathered route in a sweetheart neckline Dior gown. Rooney Mara delighted fashion fans in a vintage empire high-waisted white Alexander McQueen gown from the famous “The Girl Who Lived in a Tree” Fall collection.
That’s not to say there weren’t colorful costumes for the night (although the actual carpet was champagne rather than red). Cate Blanchett’s draped Louis Vuitton number with a splash of aqua blue on top is sleek and minimal. Hong Chau opted for a soft pink Prada shift gown with a black sequined train. Actor Kerry Condon brought a ray of sunshine in a strapless yellow Versace gown.
Meanwhile, the leading man of the night tried his suits in subtle ways. It’s an experiment in less is more: Austin Butler opts for a sleek black Saint Laurent tuxedo, but spices things up with the help of patent leather boots with a slim heel – a more modern take on formalwear shoe. Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson also rebuked simple suits in favor of embroidered bode styles, trimmed with pretty pink floral designs. Just enough visual interest to make it stand out.
