Every year, the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival brings with it many glamorous fashion moments – and this year’s bien sur was no exception. A-listers such as Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence and Viola Davis all rocked la croisette in stunning looks, whether the gowns were vintage designs or new fashion creations.
Aboriginal star Lily Gray in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon premiere Lily Gladstone received a nine-minute standing ovation—as did her floral-print Valentino gown. Even better was how she paired it with a pair of dental shell earrings by Aboriginal designer Jamie Okuma. Natalie Portman in Christian Dior 27 at the May 12
premiere )’s signature Junon gown, adorned with ornate beadwork and a scalloped skirt, made a splash.
Sculptural silhouettes continued to dominate the Cannes carpet this past week. Elle Fanning also made a splash at the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon in a custom pink tulle and beaded orchid dress by Alexander McQueen. At the Last Summer screening, French singer Yseult chose a puff-shoulder rhinestone-encrusted Balenciaga gown. “I like my looks to be structured yet fluid,” she told Vogue. “I also like to play with the curves and folds of my body and exaggerate and magnify its lines.”
Model Elsa Hosk is also for this weekend’s La Passion De Dodin Bouffant chose a surreal Viktor & Rolf gown for the premiere. It featured an asymmetrical optical illusion bodice that dangled from the body; it was the kind of double-statement look that Cannes was going for.
