Normally, the Apple Watch Series 8 starts at $399 for the smaller 41mm model and $429 for the larger 45mm model. But on Prime Day, you can pick up the 41mm version for $299, or the 45mm version for $329. If you choose the model that includes cellular connectivity, it starts at $429.

Apple products are rarely heavily discounted, especially the latest models. So for the Apple Watch Series 8, the latest in the main line of watches, $100 less than the average watch is a steal.

While you can opt for the Apple Watch SE 2 which is an excellent value for your money at just $199, we highly recommend the Apple Watch Series 8 for its many useful features.

First off, the Apple Watch SE 2 doesn’t have the always-on display that’s been around since the Apple Watch Series 5. This feature makes the Apple Watch more like a standard watch, so you can see the time at any time without actually lifting your wrist. While this will drain more battery power than having the screen off most of the time, it doesn’t drain battery life like it would otherwise. Even with the always-on display enabled, Apple Watch Series 8 can still get you through the day.

Apple Watch Series 8 also includes a host of beneficial health features not found on the affordable Apple Watch SE 2. While both the Series 8 and SE 2 feature 24/7 continuous heart rate monitoring with high and low heart rate notifications and fall detection, the Series 8 also features ECG monitoring (which helps detect atrial fibrillation) and a SpO2 sensor with Helps detect oxygen levels in the blood. Apple also included a temperature sensor in the Series 8, which is especially helpful for women as it can help estimate ovulation and menstrual cycles.

While all of these health sensors may not be necessary for everyone, if at any point you’re even a little concerned about your health, it’s best to have them as an option. The Apple Watch has been credited with saving many people from further health complications, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Finally, another reason to choose the Series 8 over the SE 2 is the fact that the display is a bit bigger. Even though there’s only a 1mm difference between the small and large sizes (40mm or 41mm, 44mm or 45mm), the extra screen real estate does help. Whether you just prefer bigger text or simply see more information at once, a bigger display can make all the difference.

Still, we recommend the Apple Watch Series 8 iPhone to those looking to get the best Apple Watch experience from their device, and we get it—it doesn’t For everyone. While the extra features are nice to have, maybe you don’t really need them, or you just need the basics. Or maybe you prefer a great experience for as little price as possible.
