How would you rate Episode 9 of The Avengers?
This week’s episode lit the fuse, but not quite the season finale explosion.
Team Revengers finds themselves in complete disarray The opium conflict boils over in Nagasaki. Well, maybe I should clarify that I’m referring to the Avengers that viewers have been watching all season because another Avengers team is trying to get them and actually have the full support of the church to make it happen Target. Now, our (anti?) heroes are just scapegoats to make a lot of money for the wider conspiracy, and the biggest sin they commit is having some conscience.
Actually Uzu wanted to do the right thing at first thing. I think the next episode will have him go and talk directly to the head of the church and try to sort things out. I don’t make predictions very often, but I’d say it’s likely to lead to a church bloodbath (because when is an action-heavy show that doesn’t use church for an amazing set piece fight?). Whether he survived was anyone’s guess, because Yuroboch wasn’t shy at the right time.
When it comes to character, Raizo is a bit depraved by the road. All the engrossing drama with Liu made the whole Raizo thing an afterthought. In fact, even the “oh cool, I’m an artist” subplot felt a little thin compared to the plot in this episode. I don’t think it’s fair to call Raizo a blank slate, although it’s hard not to argue that he’s surrounded by an ensemble cast and he’s by far the least interesting member. I hope we learn more about him before the final curtain falls.
