The Hunger Games movie franchise is expanding with a prequel film titled The Song of the Songbird and the Snake, based on the 2020 book of the same name by Suzanne Collins. What is the song of the bird and the snake about?
Collins’ novel Song of the Songbird and the Snake is set 64 years before the events of the original trilogy. According to Lionsgate, the film will focus in part on the prelude to the 10th Hunger Games. (For reference, Katniss volunteered to pay tribute to the 74th Movement.) Junior Snow, not yet the dictatorship he would eventually become, sensed some opportunity in Baird, a tribute to his mentor.
Here’s the full Lionsgate synopsis: “A few years before he became the tyrannical president of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow was the son of his declining bloodline. Last hope, the once-proud family fell out of favor at the Capitol after the war. As the 10th annual Hunger Games looms, young Snow is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, a girl from impoverished District 12. (Lucy Gray Baird) was shocked. At the ceremony, Snow thought he might be able to turn things around to their advantage.”
It continued: “Combining their passion for showmanship and newfound politics The instincts of the mind, Snow and Lucy Gray’s race against time to survive will finally reveal who is the songbird and who is the snake.”
Th The fifth film in the Hunger Games series will be directed by “On Fire” and two Mockingjay films directed by Francis Lawrence. Michael Leslie (writer of 2015’s “Macbeth” and 2016’s “Assassin’s Creed”) wrote the latest version of the script, which was drafted by Collins and “On Fire” writer Michael Arndt.
