Yesterday Japanese retailers revealed that a new version of Sony’s PlayStation 5 console (called “CFI-
‘) will be available in September .Now Australian publicationPress Start finds this latest version than 355 Revised.
Previous version(‘ CFI-355’) is 235g lighter than the release model (digital version), Because of the redesigned heatsink. This latest version likely also saves weight by reducing the heatsink. Interestingly, the new disc version is now as heavy as the original digital version.
There is speculation that this release will move the APU to the 6nm node (down from the original 7nm node), but nothing has been confirmed. If true, it will require less cooling, which could justify the weight savings. Either way, the latest version is said to be optimized for faster production.
PS. In case you missed the bad news, Sony is raising the price of the PS5 pretty much everywhere. Check out our post for updated pricing (min 6% or max 22%, depending on region).
