Time to book flights to Genoa – November 2016, The Hollywood Reporter EXCLUSIVE reveal that a brand new Princess Diaries movie is officially in production at Disney. The return of Anne Hathaway’s awkward high schooler-turned-monarch Mia Thermopolis has been waiting for nearly 20 years, but rumors of another sequel have certainly been swirling for years. Back to 2016, director Garry Marshall of the first film and its delightful follow-up The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement , discussed the possibility of a third film, but plans were put on hold following his death later that year. Negotiations slowly resumed over the next few years, and on the 2019 TV show, Hathaway confirmed that there was in fact a script for a third. “I want to do it, Julie [Andrews] wants to do it, and our producer Debra Martin Chase wants to do it,” she said. “We all really want it to happen, we just don’t want to unless it’s perfect, because we love it as much as you love it.”
Amazing Yes, according to The Hollywood Reporter sources, Hathaway has not yet reached an agreement to appear in The Princess Diaries3, but there is Facts tell us it’s only a matter of time before the Oscar winner makes his debut. Just last month, when asked about the project, she said, “Not only am I open to it, I’m working towards it.”
However, what we already know Yes, Debra Martin Chase , veteran of the first two films, will on production duties, and Aadrita Mukerji (Scorpion, Supergirl, Reacher ) are scripted. Also, in an attempt to calm the fears of purists, the source added that the film will be a continuation of an existing franchise, rather than a reboot.
There are still a few issues. Will Julie Andrews – despite voice of Bridgerton
‘s Lady Whistledown, since 2016 Just never appeared on screen again – will she reprise her role as the always poised, discreetly diplomatic ex-Queen Clarice? Heather Matarazzo as eccentric best friend Lily, Chris Pine as dashing Nicholas Devereaux or Mandy Moore in And what about Lana Thomas, the mean cheerleader from the first movie (who recently said she “would love” to show up)? Whatever happens, we’re hoping for more makeovers, sparkling balls, brutal sarcasm, side-split set pieces and lots of mattress surfing.
