As one of Sunday’s Best Actor Oscar nominees, Paul Mescal steps into the role of one of Hollywood’s leading men. The Aftersun
star has been in full swing on the Hollywood red carpet for the past two months – and, with the help of his right-hand stylist, Felicity Kay, He’s already a Best Dressed Man at the Oscars finals. Together the duo have built many of their successful looks around the classic two-piece suit, with modern, unexpected finishes that keep the ensemble feeling fresh, modern, and dare we say even a little fun

For example, at last month’s BAFTAs, Mescal’s black Gucci tuxedo (complete with a small bow tie) was spectacularly 1930 s Cartier brooch in platinum, white gold and diamonds. “Cartier showed me a picture of a brooch and it was very elegant,” Mescal told Vogue
. “I like the Old Hollywood vibe.” At the SAG Awards, he updated a black suit with a Simone Rocha elongated black blazer and trousers, with a delicate pearl floral pattern embroidered on the bottom of the jacket. It’s those subtle details—the kind you have to get up close to see—that make his suits stand out.
However, Mezcal and Kay have also gone a few times to make a bold statement. At the Independent Spirit Awards earlier this month, the actor chose the color for Gucci’s aqua blue blazer, which featured an oversized fit. He paired it with a white tank top, which proved to be a more youthful approach to styling than pairing it with a standard button-down dress shirt. His Cuban heel boots also made the look less stuffy — more playful. The way Mescal put his suits together felt super-dressy and formal, but it was like he hadn’t even tried. We can’t wait to see how he does at the Oscars!
