“All this quiet luxury, from slippery to boring,” says Amy Smilovic while browsing her Tibi resort collection. While much of what her label produces may fall into the increasingly popular category of stealth wealth — logoless ready-to-wear, nonchalant attitudes — she makes sure each staple is balanced with weirdness. Her flats are in gold nylon, her sweatpants have chunky barrel legs, and her black leggings really look like breeches, best worn with socks and strappy heels. Smilovic’s self-aware elegance focuses on ease, movement and individuality. The resort lookbook was shot in Vienna, Smolivic explained, because Americans tend to associate Europe with casual fashion. It’s a bodycon silhouette based on a knee-length skirt, tailored blazer, oversized sweater and wide-leg pants. A black bandeau top, ostrich-print leather midi skirt and gold shoes added some flirty value to Smilovic. It’s definitely more practical than her main season collection, but she still avoids the aforementioned slippery slope.
