Trevor Noah to Produce US Version of UK Late Show 'Mock the Week' for Amazon Freevee

America will get its own version of Mock The Week, the long-running BBC two-night comedy series, AmazonFreevee picked this collection for its 2024 debut. The BBC canceled the show after it aired last year.

Former Daily Show host Trevor Noah will serve as executive producer of the US version of the series through his Zero Day Productions, along with show creators Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson (who also created the improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? ). Norman Aladjem, Sanaz Yamin, Derek Van Pelt and Rob Lee will also serve as EPs. The series is produced by Angst Productions, Day Zero Productions, Mainstay Entertainment and Amazon Studios.

Mock The Week Combines improv, stand-up comedy and group performances into one format with two teams of comedians aiming for the news and world events. The presenter and talent will be announced at a later date, but Patterson said in a statement, “We can’t wait for the BBC’s successful season to begin.” Wanted to bring this format to the US and work with so many talented comedians in the US.”

We can all have a little more laughter as we continue to navigate our crazy world today,” Noah added in a statement. “By bringing Mock the Week to the US with the brilliant Dan Patterson, I look forward to doing so.”

also It is not clear when Freevee will schedule the programme, which usually airs weekly on BBC Two in the UK at afternoon or later. Streaming services have struggled to adapt late-night programming to the on-demand consumption model of SVOD and AVOD platforms, though Mock The Week Freevee is betting its format will hit.

Mock The Week will join another late night show when CBS resumes, in an atypical format on US TV screens@Midnight, the former Comedy Central series will replace Stephen Colbert’s Late Late Show after the Late Late Show . Both shows rely on a cast of comedians to target the news, though @Midnight focuses on viral clips and memes, possibly more evergreen.

In one episode, you can catch up on the weekly headlines, hear multiple perspectives on a topic, and find your next favorite stand-up comedian,” said Amazon Studios AVOD Originals, Improvised and Targeted program director Lauren Anderson said. “We’re excited to expand our comedy slate on Amazon Freevee with this much-needed series from two talented producers, Dan Patterson and Trevor Noah, who combine laughter and Learn the extraordinary ability to combine.”
