HBO series The Idol focuses on Hollywood’s seedy underworld – revealing a barely-existing LA fashion scene, pop stars and A-listers highly stylized vision. It promises to be a strong player in the revival of indie pulp. (Some well-established classics, for reference: British Teen Drama Skins and A 24 Gems
) Spring Breakers .) Troye Sivan deftly extends the hedonistic vibe of the HBO drama as creative director of a troubled pop star (played by Lily Rose Depp) to on the red carpet. While promoting the project at the Cannes Film Festival, where the show’s first two episodes screened on Monday night, the star donned outfits fit for a dive bar romp.
Sivan wore a custom look by Valentino, including a flowy white shirt and matching off-the-shoulder cutout tie, anthracite school shorts, and stud-detailed boots on a pair of pumps. The grunge-meets-corporate ensemble, designed by Marc Forne, got a healthy dose of personality through the star’s recent at-home hairstyles (which he jokingly documented on Instagram), which included burnt-yellow Highlights and clean bangs. It all culminates in a new upscale menswear look. In fact, every cast member of the Sam Levinson-created drama is bringing it, from Blackpink’s Jennie Kim in bridal Chanel to Lily Rose Depp switching to the legendary profile of the same brand, to Abel Tesfaye in a stylish Loewe suit.
Sivan sported a surprisingly bold look at Cannes. He opted for another slice and dice look last night, wearing an Alexander McQueen suit with an open-knit top. And, before the premiere of The Idol
, he wore a Valentino suit with delicate cutout details. It’s exciting to see stars really go for it!
