Company President Dana White labeled Kamaru Usman as the greatest UFC welterweight champion of all time, and currently the best UFC welterweight champion on the planet. Best boxer. It’s a huge claim, but it’s hard to deny. Usman entered UFC 278 with a 23-1 record, his only loss being the second of his career nearly a decade ago. He won the 21st Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2015 and beat everyone the UFC threw at him, including Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal, Demian Maia, Gilbert Burns and Rafael dos Anjos. He defended his belt against Leon Edwards at UFC 278. Edwards may face the tough task of wresting the belt from Usman, but he’s not slack either. Edwards’ last defeat in the Octagon, 19-3 without a game, was a Usman decision in 2015. He has since won 9 matches and another one was missed due to an accidental eye poke.
UFC 278 co-main event: Paul Costa vs. Luke Rockhold
UFC 278 co-main event is an age-old battle, as perennial Contender Paul Costa takes on former champion Luke Lockhold in a middleweight grudge bout. At 13-2, Costa has long been a contender at middleweight but has often struggled with size. He persuaded the UFC to give him another middleweight fight to face Rockhold, 16-5, but has not fought in the Octagon since July 2019.
UFC 278 Feature Match: Jose Aldo vs. Mareb Dvalishvili
The UFC 278 pay-per-view card also featured former lightweight champion Jose Aldo (31 -7) and Mareb Devalishvili (14-4) in a key featherweight bout, who is third in the 135-pound class. Currently ranked 6th in bantamweight. After Ajaman Sterling took on TJ Dillashaw at UFC 280, an impressive win by the winner could propel them into the challenge for the title.
UFC 278 women’s flyweight bout cancelled
Shanna Young has been removed from her women’s flyweight bout with Miranda Maverick due to health concerns Removed. The game has been cancelled. As a result, AJ Fletcher’s men’s welterweight bout against Ange Loosa has moved from the early prelims to the opening bout of the UFC 278 prelims, which will be broadcast simultaneously on ESPN+, ABC and ESPN.
