UFC 279 Results: When, Where and Who?

UFC 279 will take place on Saturday, September 10th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The battle card was led by a welterweight showdown. UFC 279 Main Event: Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson

Undefeated welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev (11-0) defeated Gerald Meerschaert, Li Jingliang and Gilbert Burns in the Octagon et al, broke his spotless record. Currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC welterweight division, he hopes to send Nate Diaz to the pack. But he reportedly gained 7.5 pounds after the UFC medical team advised him to stop losing weight. Nate Diaz (20-13) is a UFC mystery. His record is mediocre. He never won a UFC title. But his tenacious bad-boy style has attracted legions of fans, or equally repelled them. Diaz, who is always at odds with UFC executives, wants to annoy Chimayev and will likely walk into the sunset. This is the final fight on his current UFC contract. But after Chimayev lost weight, the fight was canceled and the fight cards for UFC 279 were reshuffled. Diaz now faces former featherweight standout Tony Ferguson (25-7) looking to breathe new life into his career. Once one of the most feared fighters at lightweight, he now loses four straight fights. Up a division, Ferguson has the chance to make an instant splash at welterweight with one of Diaz’s biggest names in the sport. They will face off in five rounds of UFC 279 headlines. New UFC 279 Co-Main Event: Khamzat Chimaev vs. Kevin HollandUFC 279 results – Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson was matched with Kevin Holland (23-7, 1 NC) after hours of negotiation after Chimaev’s headline opportunity slipped. Holland was originally scheduled to face Daniel Rodriguez in the main card feature bout, but has now been upgraded to a five-round UFC 279 co-main event, weighing in at 180 pounds, against Chimaev. UFC 279 Thematic Showdown: Li Jingliang vs. Daniel Rodriguez Tony Ferguson
Li Jingliang (19-7) has been flirting with the welterweight top 10 but has been unsuccessful. At UFC 279, he hoped for a win over Tony Ferguson to propel him forward in the division, but is now out of the co-main event to face Daniel Rodriguez (16-2). Jing Liang was not only out because he lost his co-main event seat, but he agreed to a 180-pound deal after Rodriguez added 179 pounds for a planned game with the Netherlands. Facing Rodriguez in a heavyweight bout. Jing Liang weighed 170.5 pounds. Next up: UFC Vegas 60 Sandhagen vs. Song The Octagon’s next fight is Saturday, September 17 at UFC Vegas 60. Top 10 bantamweights Corey Sandhagen and Song Yadong compete fiercely to see who can change the rankings.
