UK and Ukraine launch digital trade talks

LONDON (Reuters) – Britain said on Wednesday it had opened talks with Kyiv to remove barriers to digital trade as part of its efforts to support Ukraine after Russia invaded it.

Britain removed all tariffs on Ukrainian goods in May and is now looking to smooth trade in the digital space.

“The UK stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and will use trade as a force for good to help the country rebuild its modern economy after this brutal war,” said Trade Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

“Our partnership with Ukraine will help them seize the brighter days ahead, and we will continue to build on our ability to protect Ukraine’s jobs, livelihoods and families.”

The UK and Ukraine will seek to increase the efficiency of digital trade, working in areas such as electronic transactions, electronic signatures and other technologies.

In 2020, UK digital services exports to Ukraine accounted for nearly three-quarters of UK services exports.
