Ulla Johnson and Bergdorf Goodman gather for a weekend of aestheticians in East Hampton

In East Hampton Friday night, Ulla Johnson and Bergdorf Goodman gathered a crowd for a sunset dinner. Beloved for her modern boho dresses, the Brooklyn-based designer celebrated their fruitful partnership by hosting an event with the Fifth Avenue retailer (go to the 5th floor of the flagship store, You’ll find Ulla Johnson taking up a sizable chunk of real estate.) Where’s the dinner? The Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton, a 16 acre of land that showcases a Zen harmony between nature and art; the sculpture garden features works by Ai Weiwei and Daniel Arsham, Immaculate gardens range from peacefully inspired corners of Japanese gardens to towering patches of redwoods.

This is the perfect venue for Ulla Johnson’s dinner; after all, the mastermind behind the sanctuary was the late Jack Reynor Larson, an internationally acclaimed textile designer and craftsman A collector, his work has inspired many, including Johnson.

“I’m visiting houses in heaven,” Johnson told her dinner guests, which included Cynthia Erivo, Naomi Watts, Coco Bowdel, Sophia Rowe, Kate Young, Jessica Joffe, and others, as well as Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo and Yumi Shin. Before cocktail hour on Longhouse’s DeKooning lawn — punctuated by a Willem de Kooning sculpture — Johnson has been on a coveted tour of the Larsen home. The house, which is not open to the public, is filled with Larsen’s textile art – objects he designed himself, but also pieces collected from his world travels. “Jack is a great creator and collector of female fiber art… having this dinner here means a lot to me,” Johnson continued.

Johnson wore a soft gold metallic dress in crushed ducal satin of her own design, Toast the guests with a glass of Perrier-Jouët, she is 4-class. Most wore clothes from the new collection — a collection of elegant black and white multi-layered printed skirts and draped crepe de chine gowns. As night falls, guests can also style their look with additional Ulla Johnson elements. Oversized hand-woven straw hat party favors were placed on the backs of everyone’s chairs. They certainly added to the ambience of the tablescape and decor envisioned by Bronson van Wyck, but when guests found out they weren’t just there for decorative purposes, they started to lead the way.

After a few dishes — most prominently the poached sea bass fillets artfully decorated with sliced zucchini — dinner is approaching midnight and most people are saying goodbye. However, a few were able to extend the Ulla Johnson x Bergdorf Goodman festivities for another day. The group will enjoy more art on a private tour of the Parrish Art Museum, a facial at Naturopathica, and a tequila tasting at Casa Azul. Here are just some of the things that Ulla Johnson women love most.
