US Senate panel advances Taiwan bill, China files complaint

BEIJING (Reuters) – China said on Thursday it had made “stern representations” to the United States after a U.S. Senate panel introduced legislation to bolster U.S. military support for Taiwan.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a regular media briefing that if the bill continues to advance, it will affect US-China relations.

Mao also described the new US legislation as “sending a serious false signal to the separatist forces of Taiwan independence.”

“China is firmly opposed to this, and a spokesman said , there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. China will unswervingly promote the complete reunification of the country and lodge solemn representations with the United States.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed 2022 Taiwan Policy Act by 2022-5 despite concerns over the bill under US President Joe Biden ), and Beijing’s anger over the measure. The island ruled by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
